摘 要:

HIV infection is still a serious public health problem in the world. Highly active antiretroviral therapy can control viral replication but cannot eradicate the virus. Mathematical models, combined with experimental data, have provided important insights into HIV dynamics, drug treatment, and immune responses. However, there are still a lot of problems that remain unsolved, for example, are some drugs more effective than others? whether treatment intensification brings benefits? what causes multiple infection? are there other sources, besides the latent infection, that contribute to HIV persistence during long-term therapy? In this talk, I will present some recent modeling developments in studying these issues and also discuss their implications for the management of HIV infection.

简 介:

Libin Rong obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees in mathematics from Fudan University in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and Ph.D. from Purdue University in applied mathematics in 2007. He was a postdoc at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 2007 to 2009 and faculty at Oakland University from 2010 to 2017. Since 2017, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida. His research is focused on modeling within-host virus infection (HIV, hepatitis, influenza, etc), treatment, drug resistance, immune responses, and comparison with experimental data. He is also interested in multiscale modeling of within-host and between-host dynamics. His research has been continuously supported by the US National Science Foundation, including a CAREER Award. He is serving on the editorial boards of several journals, including Bulletin of Mathematical Biology and Mathematical Biosciences.
